The Richardson SDA Pathfinder Club participated in the Texas Conference Pathfinder Camporee held at Lake Whitney Ranch, March 28-31, 2013. The spiritual theme of the camporee was “Plug In” with Pastor Leah Jordache as the guest speaker. Throughout the weekend, the pathfinders learned how to connect with the right power source (God) through prayer.
The Richardson club was represented with 30 pathfinders, three adventurers, and 19 staff/parents. After the setting up camp Thursday afternoon, our club joined close to 3,600 pathfinders in field activities held throughout Friday. Events included reciting by memory; John 1:1-14, the 12 sons of Jacob, and the 12 apostles with Mathias replacing Judas. Other events included: club drills (marching), 300-yard relay, knots, obstacle course and campsite inspection.
Saturday morning all pathfinders wore the Class A uniform for inspection and participated in a parade that showcased all pathfinders present. The Sabbath afternoon offered a variety of activities for pathfinders to enjoy. You could fly a kite, go on several hiking trails to explore the Lake Whitney Ranch, go on a scavenger hunt or participate on a talent show sponsored by SWAU. Several members of our club participated in the talent show with a song composed by our club members. Saturday night was perfect to roast marshmallows and enjoy meeting new friends throughout camp.
Sunday was the end of camp. During the last worship session, we were reminded by Gene Clapp, Conference Pathfinder Director, on how important it is to choose God as our source of spiritual power.
The Club accumulated enough points during the weekend to achieve first place status.
Our next camporee will be the International Pathfinder Camporee held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, August 2014.
